Introducing Amazing ME to your programme

Amazing ME is a programme that is designed to increase children's self esteem and confidence and teaches them to tell trustworthy adults about situations that concern, scare or upset them. Implementing Amazing ME is a great opportunity to discuss parenting with parents / caregivers / whanau and find out how your early childhood service can support the parent-child relationship.

This may lead some children or parents to disclose information about abuse. If this happens you need to know how to respond in an appropriate manner.

Stage One - Identify Need

You identify a child's need or group of children's need or interest in a programme like Amazing ME.

Stage Two - Relevant Policies in Place

Before you introduce Amazing ME ensure your early childhood service has these policies.

  • Prevention of child abuse policy
  • Behaviour management policy
  • Consultation with parents policy
  • Programme planning policy

If your centre has these policies, ensure all staff are familiar with them. If your centre does not have these policies, then you need to develop them before you carry on to stage three. The reason for having these policies is that if abuse issues arise then you will have a process in place that will help you make appropriate decisions and give you names of people who will support teachers and family/s through the process. If your early childhood service needs help to develop these policies call your local Early Childhood Development office.

Stage Three - Familiarisation
