Parent, Caregiver, Whanau Information

It is very important to inform parents / caregivers / whanau about Amazing ME and gain their support for the programme. This is a suggested format for an information evening.

Aim:

  • To inform parents, caregivers, whanau about the Amazing Me series of the DVD tracks and gain their support.
  • To give parents, caregivers, whanau the opportunity to view the DVD tracks.
  • To give parents, caregivers, whanau the opportunity to discuss the programme.
  • To discuss how parents, caregivers, whanau can reinforce Amazing ME messages.
Content Resources Time
Introduce parents to each other.
Tell the participants about the Amazing ME programme. Use the 'Background to Amazing ME' information sheet. Discuss the 'Messages in Amazing ME' handout and the DVD content handout. You may want to make these handouts into OHPs.

Show introduction to the first Amazing ME DVD. Stop the track. Amazing ME One 5 mins

Ask participants for their reactions to the introduction, ask questions like:

  • Is this what we want for our children?
  • Do you agree with the messages?

Show the first Amazing ME DVD   25 mins
Break participants into small groups and ask them to discuss the messages in the DVD.   10 mins
Ask large group for feedback.
Lead a discussion on how participants can reinforce the Amazing ME messages at home.
Use the handout titled 'Reinforcing Amazing ME messages at home'.

Tell participants how they can view the other DVD tracks. For example you may loan them to take home or may make the DVD available to view at the early childhood service. Handout 'Reinforcing Amazing ME messages at home'. 10 mins
