Background to Amazing ME
Amazing ME is a series of five Tracks
for children aged between one and five to six years.
Amazing ME aims to nurture and support
the development of life skills that enhance a child's self esteem
and confidence.
Research shows us that:
The essential components of a developmental life-skills programme
for pre-school children include:
- Valuing the building of self esteem and confidence
- Teaching children what is acceptable and unacceptable
- Encouraging children to say "I don't like it when you did
that"
- Teaching children that the genital area is special and encouraging
them to attend to their own hygiene
- Pre-school children can be taught simple plans of action and
need the active support and direction of adults in their implementation.
The essential components for a television programme for pre-schoolers
include:
- FUN!
- Warm and caring adult interaction
- Opportunities for children to practise both familiar and new
skills
- Positive, humorous situations which are engaging for young viewers
- To be able to identify with some characters and situations
The presenter, Suzy Cato who directly interacts with the viewer
takes the viewer on a journey of discovery, affirmation and learning.
Suzy invites joining in and having a go as a big plus in growth
on the path to self-esteem.
Amazing ME uses a diversity of emotions
to engage, entertain and inform young children, leaving them with
concrete strategies to use in their everyday life.
Using dance, song, stories, appropriately powerful written dialogue
and lots of fun, Amazing ME reinforces
that each and every child is amazing and has valuable contributions
to make.
Amazing ME uses the tried and true
formula from the best loved television series "You and Me"
to engage and stimulate viewers to have fun while learning about
themselves and the world around them.
The Amazing ME scripts have been
developed by a team of professionals from a wide variety of related
industries, e.g. Police Education, Public Health, Early Childhood
Development, Health, Children and Young Persons & Their Families
Service, Health Protection, Children's Issues Centre, and Early
